19 Aug YouTube Summer in The City
3xScreen Media provided full production and live stream services for the 3rd Annual Summer in the City.
For the third year running, London hosted the YouTube Summer in the City. It was also the second year that 3xScreen Media was called on to produce and live stream the event so those watching at home could join in on the action and even interact through social media.
Not being strangers to events of this scale, 3xScreen arrived with a kit and crew ready to tackle this challenging brief. The 3xScreen OB truck is equipped with all the production kit necessary: cameras, tripods, jibs, cabling, a mobile production pod including a Tricaster 855.
For the live streaming, the LiveU LU70 was onsite with its bonded mobile capabilities, sending a strong and steady program stream back to the 3xScreen MCR where we encoded and pushed the stream to various publish points including YouTube, so tens of
thousands could view the event from all over the globe.
Our four camera men and their Sony EX3s were strategically placed around the beautiful Alexandra Palace in North London, with their vision being sent back to the vision mixer’s Tricaster 855. Wanting to improve the overall production quality, we pulled a couple of tricks out of our sleeve. In order to share the YouTube stars’ 15 minutes of fame with their fans on the day, we set up a jib between the stage and the crowd, fitted it out with a GoPro Hero3 and streamed sweeping footage of the ecstatic crowd. Enabling this wireless transmission was our new AV On Air system, which we found was ideal for this purpose.
Finally, as an icing on the cake for these social media crazed Gen Y’ers, we incorporated a live scrolling twitter feed to create that interactive element for those who couldn’t make it to the event in person.
