20 Aug Scootfest ISA World Championships Live Production
August saw the 3xScreen crew head up to the midlands to produce and live stream Scootfest, the world’s largest Scooter competition. The event, held in conjunction with the inaugural ISA World Championships, attracted competitors from around the world. While they may have been excited about getting their hands on the cash prize and landing some cool tricks – we think we brought the coolest trick of all.
If you were at Scootfest, you probably noticed members of the 3xScreen crew climbing up the competition ramps and being elevated by cherry pickers. All this was to set up the rigging and the zip-wire for our new remotely driven, DactylCam Go Rig. As the most recent addition to our event live production kit, we were excited to see what we could add to our live coverage by way of dynamic aerial camera angles. While making this device operational didn’t come without its challenges, we were able to deliver a solution that would allow the DactylCam to fly seamlessly above the riders below.
With that obstacle resolved, it was then a matter of equipping the DactylCam Go Rig with a light and versatile GoPro Hero 3. The vision captured by the GoPro was transmitted wirelessly to our production van on the ground with the use of the Teradek Bolt, a latency-free wireless transmission system that sends high definition video distances up to 300 feet.
What was delivered to the client was an extension of our typically thorough multi-camera live event coverage. By incorporating the new and exciting element of high-speed aerial footage we supplied a service that caught the attention of both audience and sponsors alike.
