3xScreen Adds NewTek 3Play Live Slow Motion

Here at 3xScreen Media, we have long enjoyed the benefits NewTek Tricasters have delivered to our live production workflow so when we explored options for extending our live production capabilities to include live slow motion replays, although the live slow motion market is generally named after the “hoover” of the segment, EVS, it was NewTek’s 3Play that we found to be the perfect fit for our operations.

The 3Play 425 is a six channel EVS machine that offers multi-channel instant replay and slow-motion machine with simultaneous recording of four channels and independent play out on 2 channels – all in high definition. For events such as BMX and skateboard competitions which are longer than a traditional sports match, the 3Play has more than 30 hours of combined 1080i storage across internal and removable drives.

3xScreen Media’s most recent use of the 3Play 425 where its features proved invaluable, was the company’s live production and live streaming of England Women’s football for FATV/Engage Sports Media.

Sergi Mari, Online Video Engineer at 3xScreen Media says, “With the 3Play, we can do instant replays of goals from three different angels whilst building up our half-time highlights package – which is really cool. The animated transitions at the start and end of instant replays that we’re able to achieve with our Tricaster and 3Play working together is sleek and professional – and the 3Play’s network outputs means we can integrate replays in to our productions without using up camera sources.”
